The Profound Heart-Opening Power of Rose Otto🌹

Step into a French rose distillery and feel the magic of rose otto. Plus, explore 5 immune-support powerhouse oils.

Hello Friend!

I had a rare and unforgettable experience in France, high up a mountain road, where a small family farm distills roses for hydrosol and a small amount of essential oil.

I made the journey with my adventure buddy, my daughter Jenny. Early in the morning, as the sun rose, the harvesters picked the roses—lush, pink blossoms full of fragrance! The scent in the air was unlike anything I had ever encountered—soft yet powerful, delicate yet immersive. Something unexpected happened as we stood in the mountains, breathing in the essence of thousands of freshly harvested roses.

Stay Inspired:  A quote from J.M. Barrie. A reminder that beauty, love, and resilience stay with us, even in the colder seasons of life.

The aroma reached deep into our souls, stirring emotions we couldn’t quite explain. Some of us felt a quiet sense of peace, others an overwhelming feeling of connection, and for many, tears came.

It was a powerful reminder that while scent is about fragrance, it’s also about memory, emotion, and presence. Roses touch something within us, awakening feelings long forgotten, offering comfort, or opening the heart. We can experience their effects in various ways, such as through a hydrosol mist or a diluted drop of rose otto oil. Even a bouquet of fresh roses in a room can shift our hearts.

This is the essence of true rose distillation. It captures the scent of the blossoms . . . and also a moment, a feeling, an experience. It lingers long after the petals have fallen.

Few oils embody self-love and emotional nourishment quite like a rose. Often associated with the heart center, the rose encourages us to embrace ourselves with kindness, offering a deep, meaningful hug in an aromatic form. Its sweet, uplifting energy promotes emotional security and inner strength, making it the perfect companion for moments of reflection and self-care.

This blend unfolds with a grounding depth, offering a warm, resinous embrace that lingers beneath a bright, citrus top note. The finish is smooth and restorative, leaving a sense of balance, warmth, and renewed clarity.

Top 5 Essential Oils for Immune Support: Embracing Age-Old Plant Wisdom

For centuries, our ancestors turned to plants for healing—seeking remedies in the scent of herbs, the rustle of leaves, and the quiet hum of the earth. Today, as we inhale the grounding aroma of sandalwood or the crisp, invigorating scent of eucalyptus, we connect to that same ancient wisdom.

During the colder months, when our immune systems need extra care, essential oils naturally support wellness. In this week's blog post, The Top 5 Essential Oils for Immune Support, we explore five powerful oils trusted for generations to help fortify the body and uplift the spirit.

Here’s a brief look at these five immune-supporting essential oils and their traditional uses:

Oregano Oil (Origanum vulgare) – A strong antimicrobial known for its high carvacrol content, oregano has been used since ancient times for respiratory health and immune support. Hippocrates often prescribed it for its antiseptic properties.

Eucalyptus Oil (Eucalyptus globulus) – Used by the Aboriginal peoples of Australia, eucalyptus is well known for its ability to clear the airways, reduce mucus, and support respiratory health. Even the trees have a drying effect on their environment, making them a natural purifier.

Sweet Orange Oil (Citrus sinensis)—This uplifting citrus oil has long been used to cleanse the air and promote overall wellness. Oranges were included in Renaissance-era remedies to ward off illness and boost vitality.

Sandalwood Oil (Santalum album) – With deep roots in Ayurvedic tradition, sandalwood has been used for centuries to support immunity and calm the nervous system, making it an excellent choice when stress threatens to weaken the body’s defenses.

Balsam Fir Oil (Abies balsamea) – With its crisp, fresh aroma, balsam fir has been used in folk medicine for lung and respiratory health. Indigenous communities brewed fir needle teas and applied the sticky resin to wounds for its antimicrobial benefits.

Product Spotlight

Rose Otto – A Rare Treasure of Aromatic Artistry

Rose otto is a rare and precious essence extracted through steam distillation to capture the rose's purest, most delicate aroma. Used by perfumers, herbalists, and healers for centuries, this oil carries an unmistakable depth, weaving together layers of soft floral warmth, subtle honeyed sweetness, and a gentle, uplifting brightness.

Rose Otto is a bit lighter and fresher than solvent-extracted rose absolute, with a delicate floral elegance. Its scent dances on the skin, unfolding in soft waves rather than deep layers.

A Symbol of Love & Mystery
Roses have long been a bridge between the physical and the spiritual, revered in sacred rituals, heart-healing remedies, and some of the world’s most cherished perfumes. Rose Otto carries this history in every drop, inviting comfort and connection.

The Art of Balance
Rose is an aromatic harmonizer, blending with woods, resins, and citrus scents to create an alchemical balance in aroma and energy.

A small amount goes a long way!
I love using this in topical blends to nourish and restore my skin. Its aroma has a profound way of shifting my mood, grounding my emotions, and bringing a sense of calm and clarity.

🌹 Did you know? It takes 50 to 60 roses to produce just one drop (1/20th of a ml) of rose otto. That means that it could take 7,600 roses to fill a 5 ml bottle. Because of the immense number of flowers required and the low steam distillation yield, rose otto is one of the world's most precious and costly essential oils.

The Ethics of White Sage Essential Oil

Reader Question: "Do you know if white sage essential oil is being ethically harvested? I've read about concerns that it's being poached from Indigenous lands."

Karen’s Response:
Great question! Yes, we’re very mindful of the concerns surrounding white sage and its sustainability. The white sage essential oil and hydrosol we source are ethically harvested from private land, ensuring that they are cultivated responsibly and not taken from wild populations or Indigenous lands.

We fully respect the cultural significance of white sage and prioritize ethical, sustainable practices in every step of our sourcing. By choosing cultivated and ethically harvested sources, we help protect both the plant’s future and the traditions of Indigenous communities.

Sustainability Matters! Always check sourcing information when purchasing white sage products to ensure they support responsible cultivation and do not overharvest from the wild.

God gave us memory so that we might have roses in December

 J.M. Barrie

Like the Old English rose, whose scent lingers long after its petals fall, or the wild rose, which thrives untamed and free, may we carry beauty, love, and resilience with us—no matter the season.

Keep blending!
